I have been dancing for 5 years now; I first started Egyptian classes in Plymouth with Siouxsie Cooper and attended many workshops with Siouxsie, Karine Buchart, Amel Tafsout and Helene Eriksen during this time. I also took a trip to Egypt and took classes with Dina there. I found myself leaning towards folkloric dance i.e. Egyptian folkloric, Rom Gypsy and Armenian women’s dance. I developed an interest in Tribal after seeing a picture of FatChanceBellyDance in a modern primitive’s publication in 1999 but had no way of learning at the time. I then saw a performance of FatChanceBellyDance at Majma in 2004 and was totally spell bound.
I have since attended workshops with Wendy Marlett, Carolina Nericcio, Geneva Bybee, and Sam Hasthorpe. I have performed for the last 4 years at hafla’s, theatres, carnivals and festivals. I started performing with Siouxsie Cooper and her Desert Rose troupe, then worked with Sue Kane as the “Naughty Ladies” performing flamenco/burlesque belly dance performance, I have undertaken solo performances and now Kalitribe. I’m also studying Flamenco and Yoga.
